As far as the record goes, Pavel \u0160ubic<\/strong> Sr. (1772\u20131847) was the first \u0160ubic to start with\u00a0woodcarwing, creating works for churches in the \u0160kofja Loka area. And as was typical for\u00a0artisan workshops, he passed the ins and outs of the artistic processes to three of his sons, \u0160tefan, Bla\u017e and Janez (Sr.)<\/p>\n

\u0160tefan \u0160ubic<\/strong> (1820 \u00ad- 1884) was the most renowned among them, creating paintings, woodcarvings and frescos all around Slovenian area since 1844. His workshop was the most important Slovenian artisan workshop of the 19th century.<\/p>\n

The artistic tradition was passed on to all five of \u0160tefan\u2019s sons, Jurij<\/strong>\u00a0(1855 – 1890) and Janez<\/strong> \u0160ubic<\/strong>\u00a0(1850 – 1889) being\u00a0the most renowned ones. They both studied at academies abroad (Venice and Wienna), and\u00a0althoug dying relatively young, they are among the most important Slovenian painters. After \u0160tefan\u2019s death his son Valentin \u0160ubic\u00a0<\/strong>(1859 \u2013 1927) took over the Poljane workshop.<\/p>\n

Bla\u017e \u0160ubic<\/strong> (1827 \u2013 1899) mostly worked with his other two brothers.<\/p>\n

Janez \u0160ubic Sr<\/strong>.\u00a0(1830\u20131898), named also \u201cJanez of Loka\u201d , started his artisan workshop in\u00a0\u0160kofja Loka arround 1855, creating works for churches all around Slovenian area.<\/p>\n

Janez \u0160ubic Sr.\u2019s son Ivan \u0160ubic<\/strong> was a mathematitian and the founder of arts and craft\u00a0school. His sons were Vladimir \u0160ubic<\/strong>, architect of Ljubljana\u2019s “Neboti\u010dnik”, and Mirko \u0160ubic<\/strong>\u00a0(1900 – \u00ad1976), founder of the Slovenian Restoration Center.<\/p>\n

\u00a0In the 20th century most renowned painter was Ive \u0160ubc<\/strong> (1922 \u00ad- 1989), depicting partisan\u00a0motives as well as rural life in Poljanska Valley. His daughter Maja \u0160ubic<\/strong> (1965) is an acomplished\u00a0painter, illustrator and fresco painter.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
